Making a pine cone pick is a very easy and can be done quickly with a bit of practice. Once wired the pick can be used to decorate a wreath by pushing the wire through the base or used to tightly secure pine cones to decorations where glue will not work.

Make a pine cone pick for wreath and table decorations

Start with a pine cone and one length of florists stubbing wire with a hook on one end.

How to attach florists stubbing wire to a pine cone

Place the hook in the wire over a pine cone 'petal' and push it down as near as possible to the centre of the cone.

Wind the stubbing wire tightly around the pine cone

Pull the wire tight and rotate the pine cone three quarters of a turn. Find a suitable gap between petals and pull the wire towards the base of the pine cone.

Bend the stubbing wire to tightly secure the pine cone

Follow the natural spiral of the pine cone until the wire is at the centre of the base then bend the wire so it is in line with the pine cone like a long stalk. Done!
